Job description
The Department of Cognitive Studies at Ecole normale supérieure, Parisis opening a junior research and teaching position in analytic philosophy for a period of 5 years, starting in Fall 2019. The position is tenurable and, upon good performance, the junior professor will become a full professor at Ecole normale supérieure after due review of their work during the five-year period.
Job description
The junior professorship is opened in any area of analytic philosophy but strong competence in the philosophy of mind and language or the philosophy of psychology is expected. Affiliated with Institut Jean-Nicod, the junior professor will belong to both the cognitive science department (DEC) and the philosophy department at ENS and will have to teach mostly at graduate level. The research work will be done within Institut Jean-Nicod.
The successful applicant should have:
– a strong research record (as evidenced by publications in top-ranked international peer-reviewed journals and books with major academic publishers) and a dynamic research program;
– an ability to interact productively with philosophers and cognitive scientists at ENS;
– an ability to play an active role in shaping the analytic philosophy curriculum offered by Institut Jean-Nicod;
– some knowledge of French and an ability to teach in that language within a couple of years from the starting date.
Deadlines
Applicants should have completed their PhD before the application date (deadline: September 15th, 2018).
Shortlisted applicants will be interviewed in Paris between late November and mid-December 2018.
Research Environment
DEC offers a highly interdisciplinary environment. Institut Jean-Nicod, to which the junior professor will belong, itself hosts research in several disciplines (analytic philosophy, formal linguistics, psychology, cognitive neuroscience), and is affiliated with both DEC and the Philosophy Department.
Teaching duties
One or two courses per semester (13 weeks/semester) and individual tutoring of students
Salary
The starting net salary will range between 2400 and 3400 euros/month, depending on experience, and will gradually increase.
